Sidan Lu Profile Photo

My research applies Green Chemistry principles to address climate change by developing sustainable electrochemical methods to transform renewable lignocellulosic biomass, treat wastewater, and remediate pollution. In my current postdoctoral work, I am working on a project titled “One-pot electrochemical synthesis of nylon precursor dimethyl adipate from lignin-derived catechol”. I am preparing a manuscript with an anticipated submission date of Fall 2025. In my first postdoc at Princeton University, I investigated the volatile fatty acids production approaches from anaerobic wastewater treatment by engineering the micro-redox environments. I then developed an electro-membrane distillation reactor to extract volatile fatty acids from the treated wastewater. The researches were published in Resources, Conservation & Recycling and Water Research in 2024. My doctoral dissertation examined producing green hydrogen (H2) and recovering nutrients from wastewater using electrochemical approaches. The publications include those in Resources, Conservation & Recycling in 2022, Chemical Engineering Journal in 2021. Biosensors and Bioelectronics, Frontiers in Microbiology, a ACS book chapter in 2020, and Chemical Engineering Journal in 2019.
